Meet the GWM Steed 5 Single Cab. It could be your right hand on the farm, on the construction site or weekend leisure tool. Based on a rugged ladder-frame chassis and featuring a double-insulated load bin with several tie-down points, the Steed 5 is ready to handle the big jobs, so don’t let its good looks deceive you. All Steed 5 Single-Cab models boast comprehensive colour coding, fog lamps and alloy wheels (excluding 2,2 MPi), endowing these workhorses with looks that are anything but humdrum.

COMFORT AND ENTERTAINMENT

The GWM Steed 5 Single Cab takes the sweat out of a tough day by offering a comprehensive standard specification, even at entry level.

It starts with the spaciousness of the cabin, which offers excellent head-, shoulder- and legroom as well as a number of storage spaces for odds and ends. There's no shoulder rubbing in a Steed - all models feature comfortable individual bucket seats, and for the driver there is also a rake-adjustable steering wheel. A neat padded centre armrest doubles as a large storage box between the seats. All models feature a heated rear window, power steering, air-conditioning and an audio system (radio with USB/SD support on the 2,2 MPi and radio/CD with USB support on all other models). In addition to the above, the 2,4-litre petrol and 2,0-litre VGT models also add leather upholstery, remote audio controls, power windows and electric mirror adjustment.

POWER AND ECONOMY

The Steed 5 Single Cab is offered with a range of three engines, catering for a wide variety of needs. The entry level model is powered by GWM's proven 2,2-litre petrol engine that develops 78 kW and 190 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The combined-cycle fuel consumption figure for this model is an economical 9,7 L/100 km. For those consumers who need more power and features, GWM's 2,4-litre petrol powered Steed 5 Single Cab may just be the ticket. It packs 100 kW of power and 200 Nm torque. Again, a five-speed manual transmission is employed but a 4x4 derivative is also offered, complete with shift-on-the-fly and a low-range transfer box. The 2,4-litre engine consumes 10,7 L/100 km.

And last, but not least, is GWM's very popular and in-house developed 2,0-litre VGT (variable geometry turbo) diesel powerplant that punches out a strong 110 kW and 310 Nm of torque. This engine is exclusively mated with a six-speed manual transmission, and 4x2 and 4x4 models are offered. This engine boasts exceptionally low fuel consumption of only 8,3 L/100 km.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

Workhorses such as these spend a lot of time on the road. At GWM we take road safety very seriously, and have equipped our 2,4-litre petrol and 2,0-litre turbodiesel models with a comprehensive safety package that includes dual front airbags and ABS with EBD. Furthermore, all Steed 5 Single Cabs feature fog lamps to boost visibility during poor weather conditions and adjustable safety belts.

To make sure your pride and joy doesn't find a new owner without your consent, central locking and an immobiliser are standard fitment.
