Handsome, isn't it? The Steed 5 looks good. End of story. From the sporty grille to its masculine and toned contours, the Steed 5 is a robust-looking machine. But do not be fooled: this attractive leisure vehicle is also a hard worker, and can handle a one-tonne load with ease.

To help you secure your load, whether it's the weekend's camping or mountain biking gear, the Steed 5 comes with several tie-down points. Double insulation protects the load bin against the heaviest loads you can throw its way.

All Steed 5 Double Cabs feature comprehensive colour coding, neat alloy wheels and front and rear fog lamps. The colour palette includes Sky Silver, Pearl Black, Red, Noble Grey and Titanium White.

COMFORT AND ENTERTAINMENT

Whether the Steed 5 Double Cab is used for business or pleasure, the comprehensive standard specification ensures that occupant comfort is never in doubt. It starts with the spaciousness of the cabin, which offers excellent head-, shoulder- and legroom all-round as well as a number of storage spaces for odds and ends. A neat padded centre armrest doubles as a large storage box between the seats.

All models feature a heated rear window, power steering, leather upholstery, air-conditioning, electric windows and a radio/CD audio system (with USB support).

In addition to the above, the 2,4-litre petrol and 2,0-litre VGT models also add a leather-wrapped steering wheel with remote audio controls and height-adjustable headlamps.

POWER AND ECONOMY

The Steed 5 Double Cab is offered with a range of three engines, catering for a wide variety of needs.

The entry level model is powered by GWM's proven 2,2-litre petrol engine that develops 78 kW and 190 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The combined-cycle fuel consumption figure for this model is an economical 10,2 L/100 km.

For those consumers who need more power and features, GWM's 2,4-litre petrol powered Steed 5 Double Cab may just be the ticket. It packs 100 kW of power and 200 Nm torque. Again, a five-speed manual transmission is employed but a 4x4 derivative is also offered, complete with shift-on-the-fly and a low-range transfer ‘box. The 2,4-litre engine consumes 10,7 L/100 km.

And last, but not least, is GWM's very popular and in-house developed 2,0-litre VGT (variable geometry turbo) diesel powerplant that punches out a strong 110 kW and 310 Nm of torque. This engine is exclusively mated with a six-speed manual transmission, and 4x2 and 4x4 models are offered. The 2,0-litre VGT engine boasts exceptionally low fuel consumption of only 8,3 L/100 km.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

Double Cabs are loved in South Africa because they match our active lifestyles. This means that, along the line, they will also do duty as family vehicles. Consequently, safety is a high priority. GWM has equipped the Steed 5 Double Cab 2,4-litre petrol and 2,0-litre turbodiesel models with a comprehensive safety package that includes dual front airbags and ABS with EBD. Furthermore, all Steed 5 Double Cabs feature fog lamps to boost visibility during poor weather conditions and adjustable safety belts. Rear door child locks are also standard.

To make sure your pride and joy doesn't find a new owner without your consent, central locking and an immobiliser are standard fitment.
